COVID-19 has brought about many changes in the way we lead our daily lives. Simple activities we may have taken for granted in the past are no longer feasible, and new safety protocols continue to challenge us all. Despite the difficulties of adopting a new normal, it is important to continue maintaining social distance, wearing a face covering, practicing good hand hygiene, and isolating if you come into contact with someone who has or may have been exposed to the novel coronavirus. Now, as during all challenging times of transition, it is especially important to practice self-care, including emotional self-care.

Continue reading our blog to learn about some helpful activities to improve your overall wellbeing during this period of adjustment.

Stay Connected with Family

Although many of us cannot spend time with family members in person these days, thanks to technology, connecting has never been easier. Smartphones and computers allow us to have video calls. Because those calls can accommodate multiple participants, your entire extended family can be on one call to catch up and see each other.

Increase Your Steps

As we try to keep our distance and observe social distancing protocols, many individuals are moving around less. Research indicates that leading a sedentary lifestyle can have a negative impact on one’s immune system. Taking planned walks while wearing a mask is a great way to stay active and healthy. When you aren’t able to walk outside, consider walking the halls or doing a step routine.

Be Thankful & Focus on What You Can Control

This is a frustrating time for many people. One effective way to combat feeling frustrated or upset is to take into account the things you are thankful for. Another general best practice is to focus on the things you can control. Keep your living space clean and tidy, and read books to stay mentally stimulated.
