Searching for an assisted living community for your loved one is a difficult task. You want to ensure you’re finding the best place possible, but how do you do that? Asking plenty of questions during your search and viewing process is the key. Keep these questions in mind before choosing an assisted living community for your loved one.
You want to know that your loved one will have an easy transition into his or her new community. The process of making friends is difficult for many seniors, but community events make it much easier. See the list of all the events offered by New Horizons in addition to the onsite amenities. These include groups, clubs, exercise classes, game nights, and holiday parties. If a resident is particularly passionate about an activity not offered, we do the best within our means to make it available.
Assisted living is designed to give seniors their independence in a safe space. New Horizons at Marlborough is no expectation. We offer a wide range of services from independent living, assisted living, and certified professional Alzheimer’s care through Hearthstone. Our 24-hour reception services can be easily called from inside our residents’ living space. On site we also have nurses’ stations and a pharmacy. Our daily shuttle also offers rides to and from medical appointments on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday, with the ability to schedule rides if an appointment falls outside those days.
A big part of community living is the dining experience. Ask how the center works to ensure its residents receive the balanced diet they need in a meal that they will enjoy. Multiple choices of entrees are a big perk. It’s also a good idea to find out what options your loved one has for where they dine. For instance, if they aren’t feeling well, can the meal be brought to their door? These services come with any package selected here at New Horizons at Marlborough. Review our rotating menu offered to residents, which is tailored to keep the health of our residents in mind.
This is a broad question, but an essential one to ask. You should seek out a center that has a positive and upbeat community life. Friendly residents and staff who welcome new residents will make the transition much easier for your loved one. During your tour of any community, pay attention to the number of residents you see out of their rooms interacting with one another. Busy common areas and happy residents are a good sign. Ask about how they will help make your loved one feel a part of the community, even on his or her first day living there. We invite you and your loved ones to come for a day and mingle among our residents and staff. We are confident it will put many, if not all, concerns to rest.
