Since it was founded in the mid-1600s, Marlborough has been a great place to live. Now, in the 21st century, there are a number of annual festivals and events that make it a truly incredible destination for people of all ages during the autumn season. If you have an aging loved one who resides at our assisted living and independent living community in Marlborough, rest assured that there are plenty of things you can take him or her to do all fall long.
The rest of this guide features a few ideas, but remember, you are really only limited by your imagination. If none of these options appeal to you, think of things your relative or friend loves and put together a great fall day all on your own. The Marlborough region is teeming with charming shops and restaurants, so even just spending a spontaneous day on the town is an excellent plan.
Labor Day Parade – Kicking-off the fall season in Marlborough is New England’s largest Labor Day parade. The event began in 1952 as a way to help the area recover from both WWII and the Korean War. The first parade featured 12 marching units, and today’s event has grown to include more than 150 individual acts, floats, and bands. This is a wonderful way to spend a day making memories with both the children and the senior citizens in your life.
Marlborough Heritage Festival – Heritage Weekend takes place in downtown Marlborough each year in mid-September. The event has been going on for more than two decades and celebrates the city’s rich history, which spans several hundred years. More than 100 vendors line Main Street, making for a lovely and interesting outing.
Evening of Giving – Ending the fall season, and beginning the holidays, in Marlborough is the Evening of Giving. This event is usually held during the final week of November. All proceeds go to Roland’s House, the area’s homeless shelter. Evening of Giving has been the marquis event in Marlborough for many years and is a wonderful way to give your aging loved one a true treat to mark the start of the Christmas season.
